Terry Barber grew up in a small town in South Wales. His fascination with make-up began from hanging around with rebel school girls who wore ‘too much black eyeliner’ and smoked a lot. Terry remembers that he was ‘…fascinated by them’. His love of dramatic women started from an early age, watching vintage Hollywood movies. In art school – a sort of beatnik place in an old warehouse – goths, mods and skinheads rolled into one. Terry explored the use of colour on canvas but also discovered the art of colouring his own face. Now, as Director of Makeup Artistry, Terry relishes a freedom of expression he has when doing editorials, campaigns and creating looks backstage at the international fashion collections.
