Juan Caguicla studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. Discovering photography, he threw himself into studying the medium and started shooting professionally while still finishing his degree in school. Finding that his studies were hampering his education, he left and sold his electric guitars to acquire his first proper camera. Preferring to shoot black-and-white for his fine art photography, his pictures are meticulously crafted shadow plays that suggest dramas that far exceed the given frame, drawing as much from film noir as the paintings of Jose Legaspi. He also likes Sophie Ellis-Bextor but mostly because she can’t dance.
